When it comes to Anyue Stone Carvings, their characteristics of being "ancient, numerous, exquisite, and beautiful" have been highly praised by people around the world. As early as in the Han Dynasty, stone carving art forms represented by cliff tomb inions emerged in the territory of Anyue. Since the Sui and Tang dynasties, Anyue Stone Carvings have featured the magnificent and skillfully crafted "Anyue Grottoes" art, represented by cliff statues in grotto temples. The Anyue Grottoes, inheriting from the Yungang and Longmen Grottoes and influencing the Dazu Rock Carvings, constitute the main body and representative of Anyue Stone Carvings. They are also a central node in the Sichuan-Chongqing grotto system and a microcosm of the development of mid-to-late period grotto art in China.
